Thinking Outside The Box: London Toilet Appartment

Recently I stumbled across the blog ‘Crystal Palace Toilets‘ by Laura Clark, of Lamp Architects, which shares her incredible journey of transforming an underground toilet block in Crystal Palace (South London). Whilst I am not sure that I would like to live there personally I definitely have an appreciation for her incredible vision and execution of a surprisingly bright, light and airy apartment. Amazing! Such creative thinking in a city where space and housing is at such a premium – and the project came in at £65,000!

You can read a detailed article with specifics here – but I thought I’d share some of the pictures – because as you know I love a good before and after. Enjoy  x

DIY Inspo: Creative Walls

A creative wall project has been on my radar for some time and I am currently deciding on which wall and what style. I am not personally a huge fan of plain colour block painted feature walls but there is something I love about a wall feature created with art, patterns and exposed textures such bricks, wallpaper, murals and wood etc. If you are in Australia and have watched any of the home reno reality TV shows, such as The Block or House Rules, you will no doubt have noticed the use of these different mediums. I think creating such walls requires taking risks, and the confidence to be bold, but the results are worth it. Here are a collection of ideas I have been admiring, browsing and inspired by. I will keep you posted with my creative wall outcomes!

Upcycle: Yes Deer, Footrest

For some time now I have loved deers. I was very excited quite a few years back when they started making an appearance in luxe and high-end interiors as such trends always filter down into the mainstream. I suppose they have been used for decor for centuries really featuring on the walls in elaborate rooms of wealthy estate or as centrepiece in the macho hunters games room but I should clarify I am more referring to the deer’s image or symbol being used in decorating as opposed to having a dead one hung on my wall! Not so much into that. I’d rather them be prancing around the forest. Ah makes me cringe thinking of that scene in Bambi. I am not sure why it is that I like them so much. I just think they are beautiful and seem so fragile and whimsical whilst strong and sturdy at the same time.

Inspiration: Black Walls, Be Bold.

Lately I am in love with black walls. Many people are drawn to black when buying staple items for their wardrobe but would gasp at the suggestion of using it to paint their dining or bedroom walls! It certainly takes a bit of guts and vision, but when pulled together with the right lighting, furniture and fittings it can be simply stunning and absolutely striking. It is on my to do list. Here are some images that I find inspiring, and should you fall in love you can find more here.

Earlier this year I actually had an interesting experience playing with bold paint colours and I discovered first hand the following myth;  – ‘Light paint colours are always best for small, dark rooms.’  Continue reading
